In the Design Village Competition, teams from across the United States design and build a theme-based structure that meets several additional requirements: the structure's parts must be hand carried down up! a mile trail into the canyon; the structure must be assembled in 12 hours, without the use of plugged electricity; the team members must live in their structure for the entire weekend. Teams are judged for craftsmanship, sustainablility, excellence in design, suitability to the theme, and public response. This event is a challenging opportunity that usually produces creative and impressive results.

Post - Apocalypse: Form Follows Fiction

Imagine a world with runaway global warming, a crashed stock market, no more gasoline, plant and animal species becoming extinct, and… zombies. Yes, zombies.

As designers, you are now faced with the challenge of adapting to your own, fictional, post-apocalyptic world. Design and build a dwelling that responds to your post-apocalyptic world and bring it to Poly Canyon to compete against other post-apocalyptic designs.

Do not limit yourself to the real, nor limit yourself to the potential of the unreal.
